Students, I put together a list of things that you should be able to do after reading through the section on China. I will begin giving you a list before the lesson each time, but for today I am posting it here. If you can do each one of these things, you can pass any test I give you. This is NOT an assignment. These are study tools for the section that was just covered. Feel free to answer any in the comments, though.
- Compare the physical size of China with the next largest nation in the world.
- Cite the physical size of China in millions of square miles.
- List at least seven of the fifteen nations that China borders and their relative location to China.
- Recall what portion of China is covered in highlands.
- Describe the population of China.
- Identify the government of China, who the initial leader was, and describe the current state of the government.
- Compare the population of China to that of the world and to Asia.
- Represent graphically the population of China as compared to the rest of Asia and the world.
- Define “Chung Kuo” and explain why the early Chinese named their country this.
- Identify the major people group in China.
- Cite the most widely spoken language in China.
- Explain the historical difference of the Wade-Giles and the Pinyin writing systems.
- Chart the differences and similarities of China’s major religions (Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam) according to the four worldview questions.
- Explain the Chinese system of ancestor veneration or worship.
- Specify in which century the feuding provinces united under dynastic rulers and identify the name of that dynasty.
- Summarize in your own words why the Great Wall of China was built, by whom, and itemize the figures of the wall.
- Define “dynasty”
- Explain why the Chinese emperor Ch’n had the Terra Cotta army built.
- Explain where China got its name.
- Identify under which dynasty the Chinese were ruled at the time of Christ.
- Describe what benefit the Silk Road brought to Chinese merchants, western traders, and the world as a whole.
- Identify which two foreign colonies remained in China well into the late th century.
- Justify why the Chinese were unprepared for self-rule when nationalists overthrew the dynastic rulers at the beginning of the th century.
- Distinguish which revolutionary brought the Chinese people under a Communist dictatorship.
- Map the areas of China that produce its crops.
- Define “collective farm” and explain its differences to an independent farm.
- List the crops, minerals, and products that dominate China’s trade.
- Predict why Chinese tour guides might steer tourists away from China’s darker side.
- Identify which nation claims to be the “true government of China”
