33-31: Our Win against Dian Harapan

For our second game of the year we were able to play our sister school, Sekolah Dian Harapan – which is run by the same foundation as we are.  Overall our guys played a solid game, showed a respectful attitude towards their opponents, and were able to emerge victoriously at the end.  Despite some of the hiccups, it was a good game.

There were a few low points:

  • Our normal referee was out sick, so things needed to be thrown together in the last few minutes before the game began.
  • Victor-y fouled out, but thankfully it was near the end of the game so he was able to use his height to dominate throughout each quarter.
  • Woo Kim, ‘Von, and Baby J. also approached five but thankfully never hit that number before we made that final countdown from 30 seconds.
  • Chi Wonder Boy managed to trip over himself on a fast break and chipped his tooth pretty bad. We’re praying he’ll be able to get it fixed.
  • Jay Walk wasn’t able to play as much as we’d have liked cause his legs just weren’t getting into the game.

But there were some definite high points:

  • El Niño played every minute of the game.  He led from down low and from out front.  He brought “the storm” towards the end that solidified our win.
  • All in all we ran the offense that we’ve been working on for a couple of weeks now.  We managed to bring the pace of the game down and played the game we wanted to play by controlling the ball.
  • Baby J. hit his first three from the top of the key.
  • Woo Kim, Jay Walk, and Victor-y continuously got their bodies into the mix, often being able to triple team Dian’s big men Andre and Rico as they’d lay it up from beneath the bucket.
  • It was a sight to see when El Niño got his 3-foot-3 stature five feet off the ground to send the flying from their big man’s hands.
  • There were a lot more shots taken from outside the three, which put some points on the board. ‘Von got a couple of them in there.
  • Hyun Sung Hero’s game was exactly what it needed to be.  He was everywhere that he needed to be.

Compared with our game against Anglo, tonight’s was amazing – especially attitude-wise.  Even though our guys got knocked down and a couple of calls weren’t the best, they brushed it off, played the game we’d been practicing, and brought it home.

Well done men.
